Book Editors

Professor Huiyu Zhou

School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences, University of Leicester, UK
Short Biography: Prof. Zhou heads the Applied Algorithms and AI (AAAI) Theme and leads the Biomedical Image Processing Lab (BIPL) at University of Leicester. He was Director of MSc Programme (2018-2019) and Coordinator of MSc Distance Learning at Informatics (2018-2022), and is PGR Director and Deputy Director of Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence, Data Analytics and Modelling (AIDAM). Prior to this appointment, he worked as Reader (2018-2020) at University of Leicester, and Lecturer (2012-2017) at the School of Electronics, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Queen's University Belfast (QUB). He was a visiting scholar of QUB during 2018-2020. Prof. Zhou has published widely in the field. He was the recipient of "CVIU 2012 Most Cited Paper Award", "MIUA2020 Best Paper Award", "ICPRAM 2016 Best Paper Award in the Area of Applications" and was shortlisted for "ICPRAM 2017 Best Student Paper Award" and "MBEC 2006 Nightingale Prize".

Professor Linlin Shen

Short Biography: Prof. Shen is currently the “Pengcheng Scholar” Distinguished Professor at School of Computer Science and Software Engineering, Shenzhen University, Shenzhen, China. He is also an Honorary professor at School of Computer Science, University of Nottingham, UK, Visiting Professor at School of Computer Science, University of Nottingham, Ningbo, China and Visiting Professor at Wenzhou Kean University, Wenzhou, China. He serves as the Deputy Director of National Engineering Laboratory for Big Data System Computing Technology, Director of Computer Vision Institute, AI Research Center for Medical Image Analysis and Diagnosis and China-UK joint research lab for visual information processing. He also serves as the Co-Editor-in-Chief of the IET journal of Cognitive Computation and Systems, and Associate Editor of Expert Systems with Applications. He is listed as the “Most Cited Chinese Researchers” by Elsevier, and listed in a ranking of the “Top 2% Scientists in the World” by Stanford University. He received the Most Cited Paper Award from the journal of Image and Vision Computing. His cell classification algorithms were the winners of the International Contest on Pattern Recognition Techniques for Indirect Immunofluorescence Images held by ICIP 2013 and ICPR 2016.

Associate Professor Jia Chen

Faculty of Artificial Intelligence in Education (National Engineering Laboratory for Educational Big Data), Central China Normal University, China
Short Biography: Dr. Chen is the leader of the XR and Smart Education Research Group, Deputy Director of the Teacher Education Development Research Center at Central China Normal University (CCNU), and host of the Excellent Youth Team Program (20 items in total) of CCNU. His areas of expertise include VR/AR/MR and application systems, 3D shape modeling, 3D human motion capture, classroom behavior recognition, co-segmentation, 3D registration, pose tracking and multi-view triangulation. He serves as a reviewer for many journals, including OE/OL, IEEE TAES, TASE, TCSVT, TVCJ, Interactive Learning Environments, Journal of Educational Computing Research, Chinese Journal of Computers, and Acta Automatica Sinica. He is a member of OSA, SPIE, and IEEE. He received the SquareCn/24010401/Best Paper Award (with Fuqin Deng and Edmund Y. Lam) of SPIE (Image Processing: Machine Vision Applications Conference 2015). He holds a PhD degree in Motion Capture from Harbin Institute of Technology.

Professor João Manuel R. S. Tavares

Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto (FEUP), Portugal
Short Biography: João Tavares is co-editor of more than 80 books, co-author of more than 50 book chapters, 650 articles in international and national journals and conferences, and 3 international and 3 national patents. He has been a committee member of several international and national journals and conferences, is co-founder and co-editor of the book series “Lecture Notes in Computational Vision and Biomechanics” published by Springer, founder and Editor-in-Chief of the journal “Computer Methods in Biomechanics and Biomedical Engineering: Imaging & Visualization” published by Taylor & Francis, Editor-in-Chief of the journal “Computer Methods in Biomechanics and Biomedical Engineering” published by Taylor & Francis, and co-founder and co-chair of the international conference series: International Symposium on Computational Modeling of Objects Presented in Images, ECCOMAS Thematic Conference on Computational Vision and Medical Image Processing, International Conference on Computational and Experimental Biomedical Sciences and International Conference on Biodental Engineering. Additionally, he has been (co-)supervisor of several MSc and PhD thesis and supervisor of several post-doc projects, and has participated in many scientific projects both as researcher and as scientific coordinator.
